March was amazing.
The weather in Toronto oscillated from gorgeous spring days with warm breezes and blinding sun, to fog that blocked all nearby buildings from view, hail storms, and near-torrential rain.
In March I got to attend great concerts by Frank Turner, The Zolas, and Common Deer, a comedy show by Noel Fielding, and a storytelling night with Pressgang Storytelling (featuring Frank Turner) at The Garrison. I'm also on the committee for the Toronto Irish Film Festival, which was at the TIFF Bell Lightbox over the first weekend of March. This was an amazing weekend. I saw some great Irish films, learned a lot more about the 1916 Easter Rebellions, and made lots of new Irish friends who recently moved here. It was like the greatest hits of events all month, and it's not even summer yet.
Spring is my favourite season, mainly because of the surge of serotonin I get as soon as the sun starts to come out. I won't go as far as to say that I have seasonal affective disorder, but the intense feeling of joy that comes when spring begins has me thinking the sun may have a little bit too strong of a hold on me. It is beautiful though, that spring really does feel like a rebirth across the whole city. I get to rediscover these streets and bask in the outside world again.
Coming up in the next few weeks, I'm really looking forward to seeing Ryan O'Reilly and his band on April 16 at The Burdock. I saw them last February at The Dakota Tavern, while a snowstorm raged outside, and it was such a magical show for me (every show at The Dakota is magical), so I'm really looking forward to seeing them at Bloor West's The Burdock - an equally enchanting venue.
On April 29, I (sadly ) finish a six month work contract, and (happily) immediately depart on a trip that will take me to Dublin and all around Ireland, and then to London. I moved home from England in April 2011, and haven't been back since, so I am incredibly excited to return, see how things have changed, and re-visit old favourite spots. I'll be posting fairly frequent updates to Instagram and Twitter during the trip, and longer, more in-depth posts with more photos on here as soon as I get the chance.
Please send me any cafe, pub, restaurant or other suggestions via Twitter, the comments below, or the contact page!
Thanks so much for reading, and until next time!
